Eyelid aesthetics assessment

Dermatochalasis
and Lower Lid Treatment

Eyelid aesthetics for both visual comfort and appearance: upper lid blepharoplasty and lower eyelid bag surgery.

About Dermatochalasis Treatment

Eyelid aesthetics can make important contributions to both visual comfort and appearance. Upper lid skin excess and lower eyelid bags that develop with ageing are corrected surgically.

Dermatochalasis is the loss of elasticity and sagging of the upper eyelid skin; in advanced cases it can narrow the visual field. Lower eyelid bags create a constantly tired expression as the fat tissues become prominent.

Treatment includes upper eyelid aesthetics (blepharoplasty), lower eyelid bag surgery and, when needed, combined medical aesthetic procedures. For detailed aesthetic lid surgery, see our blepharoplasty page; for the symptoms, see our Dermatochalasis page.

Who Is It For and When Is It Used?

Eyelid aesthetics is planned in the following situations:

  • Upper lid skin sagging: In skin excess that narrows the visual field or causes a tired look.
  • Lower eyelid bags: In fat bags that become prominent under the eye.
  • Tired and aged appearance: In situations where changes around the lids cause aesthetic concern.
  • Habit of raising the brow to see: In people who constantly use the forehead muscles to open their view.

Treatment Methods

The main methods used in eyelid aesthetics:

  • Upper eyelid aesthetics (blepharoplasty): Sagging skin excess is removed, opening the visual field and achieving a younger look.
  • Lower eyelid bag surgery: Adjusts the fat bags in the lower eyelid.
  • Combined medical aesthetic procedures: Can be supported with botox and filler applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. When upper lid sagging narrows the visual field, surgery becomes a functional necessity; in most patients both the view opens and a younger appearance is achieved.
In the upper lid the incision is hidden in the natural lid fold so the scar is very hard to notice; in the lower lid, the scar is minimised with an approach beneath the lashes or inside the lid.
The procedure is usually done under local anaesthesia and you return home the same day. Swelling and bruising occur in the first few days; social recovery is usually complete in 1-2 weeks.
True bags due to fat tissue do not go away permanently with creams; the most effective solution is lower eyelid bag surgery.
Yes. In suitable patients, surgery can be supported with combined medical aesthetic procedures such as botox and filler.
Most patients return to daily life within a few days; pronounced swelling and bruising usually subside within 1-2 weeks.
