About Macular Degeneration Treatment

In macular degeneration, early diagnosis is very important for protecting vision. Especially in the wet type, intravitreal injection therapies can bring the disease under control.

Macular degeneration has two main forms, dry and wet. The dry type progresses more slowly, whereas in the wet type abnormal vessels developing under the macula leak and can cause rapid vision loss; this form is controlled with intravitreal injection therapies.

Who Is It For and When Is It Used?

Macular degeneration treatment is planned in the following situations:

  • Wet type macular degeneration: Intravitreal injection in active cases with leakage and bleeding under the macula.
  • Seeing straight lines as wavy: In metamorphopsia (distortion) and central blurring complaints.
  • Dry type monitoring: Follow-up and support treatments to slow progression.
  • High-risk patients: Close follow-up in those carrying risk factors such as smoking, family history and advanced age.
